Steve Ricks Rocks

I just found a travel expert who may just inspire the masses more than me. (Or at least inspire me to stop holding my daybag over my shoulder on one strap.) You might find this YouTube bit worth two minutes.

Happy travels… huh, huh, huh

  1. I am glad you realized this knock off may inspire travellers more than you have recently. Of course that may change if Steve starts to believe he is also a political guru.

  2. I thought he did a good job of capturing your diction. Did anyone else notice the monument that’s not in Paris, but Munich?

  3. So glad you have a good sense of humor. I saw one a long time ago that they did on your travels through Italy! Everyone needs a good laugh these days!

  4. Rick, as true believer and traveler plenipotentiary to your court in Castle Edmonds, sub-district of the soviet (woops! strike that) of washington state, this subject always bows north/west/east and south to the all-wise and knowing one (also known as himself). But steve rick’s does rock! A follower.

  5. Rick, As the old saying goes “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”. This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this (concerning you) but I suppose it was only a matter of time. While it’s mildly entertaining, it’s not a particularly accurate portrayal IMHO.

  6. Larry, It was great to talk travels with you at the “court in Castle Edmonds” during the recent Tour Alum reunions. Your bottle of Champagne was well deserved! Hopefully you had an enjoyable train ride back to your Castle? If you’re registered on the Helpline, I’m sure we’ll talk again. Happy travels!

  7. Maybe this could land you a spot on Saturday Night Live. It has a Tina Fey/Sarah Palin flavor to it. Of course, I’m not sure your impersonator is quite as well known as Tina Fey!

  8. Rick, I personally didn’t find the clip funn, but I’m glad that you are able to laugh. It reminds me of when I was a junior in high school and I got to sit in on a breakfast meeting with the govenor and state legislative leaders. The govenor commented that in watching late-night television the evening before he realized that the mark of a successful politician was being made fun of on national tv – it sounds like you are there!

  9. Steve Ricks is a very good mimic. Some of his voice inflections are so spot on to Rick that they’re almost scarey. He needs better writers, though. The material is just not that funny. I would suggest that Steve wear a huge “Obama” pin, carry a Cheech and Chong “Up In Smoke” size reefer, and do a visit to Havana, pointing out all the socialist splendor, while 1957 Chevy Impalas cruise in the background, and state police beat up protestors carrying anti-Castro banners.

  10. Against blog etiquette, I am compelled to point out that Socialism and Communism are not one and the same. Please learn the difference. Incidentally, my captcha is “chicano.”

  11. We just returned from the forum “Marijuana It’s Time For A Conversation” which led me to Rick’s Blog. We enjoyed the conversation, and I am looking forward to a trip to Puerto Rico. I thought the YouTube imitation was off the mark Rick. I would like to see Will Ferrel give it a shot. Janet

  12. No thanks, I prefer my dose of Rick Steves straight. I don’t want to sound like a sycophant and I don’t blow smoke, but I do admire you, Rick. When I first met you at one of the travel gigs in Edmonds I got the distinct impression that you are a very sensitive, shy fellow who happened to have found his passion in life. This passion forced you to overcome your natural inclinations; more importantly, you have accepted yourself wholly and without reservation. We need to emulate people like you by having the strength to stand by our convictions openly, candidly, and humbly. It is flattering to be the target of public humor, but thankfully we have the choice to pass while enjoying the quirky fellow that has found his niche. Continued peace and joy.

  13. This video reminded me of when my dad was so proud of his new luggage. He told me, “Steve Rich told me to get it.” I had no idea what he was talking about–some friend from work told him which luggage to get? When he told me that Steve Rich was “the guy on PBS,” I figured it out.

  14. Imitation is truly the sincerest form of flattery. For those who found the clip any way offensive or off-putting, perhaps a “chill pill” or a nice glass of cotes du rhone will calm their sensitivities! I’m definitely a fan of Rick’s and have had many wonderful memories of budget-oriented and low-key travel adventures. In fact, me and my wife plan to take a Rick Steve’s tour next year for our 5th anniversary. We all have idiosyncrasies and mannerisms which can be referred to in a good-natured and humorous manner. The video is very funny and, in my opinion, produced without any malice or ill will. I believe one of the keys to enjoying life is to be able to laugh at ourselves. I’m glad that Rick shared the clip and is able to enjoy some self-deprecating humor!

  15. Hi Rick! I emailed you this clip (but maybe you’ve seen it before I sent it) and I’m glad you put it up on your blog! This is too funny!!! I’m looking forward to your new shows!

  16. Just got around to watching the clip. Stupid, funny and somewhat informative. Now we’ii probably see Rick included in the next “Jib-Jab” offering. But hey Rick don’t give up the day bag. I have had one for a year or so and use it every day. Very handy item.

  17. Rick, we are planning our 3rd trip to Venice and are very much interested some archeological dig information. Is there such an experience there such as the steps being taken to preserve the buildings and the history that is now underwater? I can’t seem to find anything on the internet. Can you lead us in the right direction? Thanks, Dona

  18. Maybe when that kid grows up he can create his own travel niche…..You do the best travel shows and keep slinging your day pack over your shoulder – it’s you! I do the same thing :)

  19. Loved the spoof. While I was watching, I also viewed several Marco Polo clips. Hilarious! I want to go to Seattle ASAP.
