Looking for Good B&Bs in Vernazza

I spent the day climbing all over Vernazza while looking for good B&B rooms. The going rate is €70, and places with a view or terrace charge €85. Some are good, others don’t make the cut. This place came with an incredible 360-degree view, but the rooms were too cramped, the layout was tortuous, and the price was just too high. Still, it was a fun visit.

  1. Perfect timing getting the train whizzing by. That place looks just dreamy. Glad you`re having a great time!

  2. Unless you`re legally deaf, you cannot sleep anywhere near the train station. Ear plugs are insufficient. Trains ranging from the Orient Express to Locals – and from 75 to 110 decibels – pass thru Vernazza every 30 minutes or so all night long.

  3. We stayed in one of your suggested hotel in Monteroso and we were on the very top floor and could see the train go by behind us, but we never had trouble sleeping. I don`t think that little local train runs all night.

  4. We saw Rick in Vernazza as he was trying to catch the train to Monterosso. We had just finished hiking from Corniglia. We spent two nights in Corniglia and enjoyed the quietness of the village. We loved being able to explore each of the villages. Thanks Rick for your invaluable insights that helped us on our 3 week trip throughout Europe.

  5. I understand Rick`s affection for Vernazza as well as its residents` affection for him. He is the golden goose – or pied piper – for americans. But there is mucho noise and there is crowding – and, sadly, there is gouging. Parking is atrocious. Entry roads are precarious. But my wife and I liked it. If we returned again, we would stay in Monterosso, or even better, La Spezia. Rick promotes his business`s best interests no matter the country. No surprise. Hallstadt, Austria – maybe. Obertraun across the lake, better. Werfan, much better. So you see that Rick is sort of like a doctor: first, his income; next, protection from criticism (suits); and then, dear buyer, you. Still, he has a good business model and I admire him but I especially admire his employees and guides.

  6. The videos are okay but I miss the wonderful written descriptions Rick used to do!
