Video: To the Toilet — James Bond Style

The Swiss love to cap their peaks with restaurants. One of the most popular is the Schilthorn’s Piz Gloria, a revolving restaurant perched at 10,000 feet above sea level. Just after it was completed and before opening to the public in 1969, it was the famous and thrilling setting of key moments in the James Bond movie, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Today, they entertain visitors with 360 degrees of jaw-dropping Alpine views and lots more. The station is bursting with the James Bond theme…even the public toilets — as you’ll see in this clip. This must be one of the most memorable toilets anywhere — what’s your most memorable foreign WC?

  1. Sognefjord in Norway: The view from the restroom toilet at the top of Stegastein Lookout near Aurland is the best view you’ll ever see in a restroom. While seated on the toilet, one can look out the window and view the majesty of the fjord. It’s a must if you’re visiting Flam and/or the Sognefjord!

  2. Hi Rick,

I loved your video and appreciate your sense of humor.

My favorite WC is whichever one is closest at the moment nature calls.

    Happy Travels,

  3. Rifugio Emilio Comici in the Val Gardena of Italy. High-Tech and fabulous! A great place to “go.”

  4. My favorite WCs are the squat toilets in Mongolia where I served in the Peace Corps. I lived in one half of a little wooden house and the couple who owned it lived in the other half. The WC was in the far corner of the yard. One day as I walked down the path to the WC, the WC suddenly grunted at me! I quickly realized that someone must be in the WC and could see me through some slits in the door. I retreated quickly and later made another attempt, cautiously. All quiet, but after that I listened carefully as I approached the WC.

  5. Years ago I visited the restroom at the British Museum. Every square of toilet paper had the words printed, Property of the British Museum. Well, if they REALLY want it back…

  6. Wow this is really strange. We used your videos to plan our trip. And it just happens that we went to piz Gloria this morning . We’re in Murren. Was this shot today?

  7. This may seem strange, but the most memorable one was in a tiny falafel place in Paris’s Latin Quarter. My lady friend and I ate lunch at one of the two tables and we both had to go. I asked the owner in my bad French if they had a toilet. He pointed down a narrow, winding set of stairs. At the bottom was a small door. It opened into what was literally a broom closet, with a mop, bucket and broom hanging on the wall. There was a toilet and the toilet seat was hanging on a nail on the wall. When I returned to my friend, I described it to her. She had a horrified look on her face, and said she would wait until we walked back to the hotel – which was on the Rue Cler. A long walk.

  8. BEIJING 2008, in a former 1980s strip club turned restaurant, with no update to the décor. Black piping encase the pink booths, smoked mirrors adorn the walls & ceiling. The men’s restroom has blood-red pedestal sinks in the shape of the lower half of sexy women in high heels facing the wall. Therefore, when the man steps up to the sink and reaches for the faucet, his hips are perfectly pressed into “her” voluptuous red ceramic “cheeks”… Some of the funniest travel photos we’ve ever taken!
