Video: The Mighty Trümmelbach Falls

I love Switzerland’s Lauterbrunnen Valley, which is named for its many “loud waterfalls.” The loudest of these waterfalls is Trümmelbach, which for eons — like God’s bandsaw — has been slowly and steadily cutting its way deeper and deeper into the mountains. I always feel the power of nature here, so sharing this with our tour groups is really a joy. Follow me with this clip for a peek at this powerful example of the wonders of nature — so accessible in Switzerland. Where have you enjoyed the raw power of nature in your travels?

  1. Guten Tag,

I’m lucky to have seen and heard the falls and toured the Lauterbrunnen Valley and the amazing mountains twice.

    I love the Bernese Oberland.

    Cheers,

  2. Trummelbach Falls was one of the highlights of my 7-week trek through Europe for my 25th birthday …

It was a particularly steamy afternoon in the Lauterbraunnen Valley by the time I took the gondola from Gimmelwald down to the falls. I went in, looked around, felt the glacial water cold against my skin … Then I walked out into what felt like a wall of humidity – the contrast was breathtaking! A moment later, the sky opened up and I was running across the parking lot getting completely drenched. It was nuts …

And I never would’ve experienced that without reading about the Bernese Oberland in a Rick Steves book, so thanks!
