To fine-tune our newest guidebook, Rick Steves’ Northern Europe Cruise Ports, I’m taking a Princess Cruise that hits many of the major ports. Our route: We start in Copenhagen, and then (sleeping on board each night and spending one day per port) we visit Oslo, Aarhus, Warnemünde (Berlin), a day at sea, Stockholm, Helsinki, and St. Petersburg, where we leave the ship early to do some exploring. (Without us, our ship stays two days in St. Petersburg — the only two-day stop — before a day in Tallinn, and a day at sea returning to Copenhagen.) Here are a few photos from our first few hours on board.

Rick,
It looks like you’re both having a wonderful time! Given your hectic schedule most of the time, you deserve a break!
Would it be reasonable to surmise that future Rick Steves Tours might include a cruise component. Establishing a “partner” arrangement with a cruise line might be a good business decision, given the current popularity of cruising.
Happy cruising and Bon Voyage!
Cruising doesn’t appeal to me much but this particular itinerary may be suited to it due to the geography. Would definitely need to stay in Copenhagen a few days before and/or after. Been to Stockholm for a week in summer before and it is glorious how late the sun stays out (though equally inglorious when reappearing at 3am)
Ditched the beard, I see. Probably for the better, you had a certain Captain Ahab look going with it.
Managing all that food! That is the one thing about cruises I dread! After a few days that seems to be what you are looking forward to. Be curious to know how you end and stay in St Petersburg? Some of these spots I would like to explore for longer than a day or two.
Since Rick has acquainted us with his family on his productions, I think it is only natural to wonder what happened to the seemingly happy family.
I’m with you, silverheels!
The photos are wonderful, and although my husband and I have never been interested in cruises, your trip looks lovely.
