The anticipatory experience of watching your (or someone else’s) crepe being made is indeed special, whether you’re in Breckenridge, Colorado or Chamonix, France or beyond.
Despite several instances of being along the Seine in Paris at night, however, I’ve never myself seen a boat with blazing searchlights, although I understand Rick and one of his tour groups once mooned a boat that hit them with its spotlight!
I didn’t care for the place. NYC appeals to me more because they don’t ride their motor scooters up on the sidewalk on the way home from work, the bus drivers, metro staff and even the hot dog vendors are more courteous and, let’s face it, once you have seen one church you have seen them all. I even prefer the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Louvre because there are fewer pick pockets.
I will be back in Paris soon…can’t wait!!
We are going to spend New Years Eve in Paris this year. One of those bucket list things! It has been 8 years since we have been there and looking forward to seeing all the sights and eating all the great food.
Thanks for a great idea…complete with picture…. of an evening picnic on the bank of the Seine. A better ending to an evening after a concert at Saint Chapelle than the dinner I had planned. Keep up the great work, Mr. Rick.
My view: Paris is the center of the universe and #1 on my list.
The best of our 3 visits: our honeymoon.
Thanks for reviving fond memories.

We’d appreciate comments from anyone who has been on a Rick Steves tour of Paris which included New Year’s Eve. and ended on Jan. 1. How does the tour group celebrate New Year’s Eve? Thanks.
I’m helping my niece to plan a visit to Paris where she will be accompanied by her 10-year-old daughter. Of course, this task of planning a trip to Paris for a mother-child pair has made me even happier than when I planned my last trip to the City of Light, two years ago. Paris is indeed the center of the universe.
I was in Paris for a week last summer and I do not speak French. The only two words that I used in French were Bonjour and mercy and that was engouh. I visited major turisty Paris attractions, ordered food in restaurants without any communication problems. No one treated me as ugly american . Though, I still have a Russian accent:-) The only problem during the whole trip I encountered was finding luggage lockers in Paris Train Station before going for 2 days to Brussels. I spent 45 min asking and searching and finally gave up and locked my luggage when I came to Brussel Train station.
