I struggle to appreciate the beloved Italian firewater called grappa. Finishing dinner at Rome’s Ristorante da Fortunato with a glass, my friend Stefano (who runs Hotel Oceania) explains that his greatest joy is grappa ‘ specifically, a chilled grappa with a Tuscan cigar on his sailboat halfway to Corsica.

Hi Steve! Love your travel blog … although, I must say the idea of grappa, a cigar, and a sail boat makes me queasy. Otherwise, the idea of leisurely dining is most attractive. :) Just wanted to also pass on that my daughter (who is 4), said, just this morning, “Let`s go to Europe. Maybe we`ll see Rick Steves!” I so appreciate your constant advocacy for the importance of travel!
I was given Grappa by a waiter in Venice, when I asked if he knew for sure if my coffee was decafe. He brought the Grappa and said put it in your coffee and it wont matter. I have never liked it straight, but my husband loves it and usally will bring a bottle back!
