Grand Tour of My London Hotel Room

One of my favorite moments in my travels is that little eddy between modules of a trip. For me, each two-month trip has segments. Today, the film crew is flying home from Germany, and I’m settling into Britain. Travel is so efficient these days. We woke up at 5:30 a.m. in Rothenburg, left at 6 a.m., drove 90 minutes at about 100 mph on the autobahn to the Frankfurt airport, turned our car in, checked in with plenty of time for breakfast, and flew at about 10:30 a.m. By 1 p.m. (having gained an hour) I was settled into my hotel room in London with a Tube pass and my pantry stocked. Check out my scene with this video clip.

  1. Hi, Information as to the name of the hotel, area of London and rate would be very helpful.

  2. Hi, Info. on name of hotel rate and area of London would be very helpful.

  3. I know that room very well! For more than 20 years. In fact, just booked another reservation this morning. Happy writing, and if you get hungry for another sandwich, the Waitrose on Old Brompton Road has an addictive BLT (amazing whole grain bread and the leanest thin slices of British bacon). Give my regards to Leonie and Simon, the best innkeepers in London!

  4. This must be Kensington. This room is so much better than the place we stayed last year! Loved the neighborhood but the hotel was awful!

  5. Hi Steve – and Steve’s readers – I hope you’ll accept a warm welcome from a Londoner to the Big Smoke.

Lots going on ‘out East’ as in the East End and beyond of London town these days too, so worth a look in I’d suggest. Of course there’s oodles going on everywhere else too!

I hope you enjoy your stay Rick – and the same goes to Rick’s readers as well.

God Save The Queen… as we habitually say to ourselves in the mirror when brushing our teeth in the morning. Perhaps.

  6. Very comfy looking, Rick! Last March we stayed at your other recommended hotel on Sumner Place, Number Sixteen. Absolutely marvelous! The designer of the rooms, Kit Kemp, shows impeccable taste and style. Plus all of the staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel pampered. A bit more of a splurge, but also a luxurious memory that will last until our next visit to London!

  7. Rick, I love your “selfie” videos…but could you please move your camera/phone a little slower? I get SEE-sick ;)
