A Human Traffic Jam at Nice’s Train Station

Whether you’re docking in Nice or Monaco, or tendering in from Villefranche, getting around the Côte d’Azur is a snap by train. You may encounter congestion that has nothing to do with the cruise crowdsas we did here in the Nice train station. When there’s a human crush like this in Europe, I like to settle into a peaceful nook and just enjoy a little people-watching until the jam clears.

If you can’t see the video below, watch it on YouTube.

  1. Unless you travel in the off-season or go to non-crowded regions, this reminds me of all the cities I’ve ever been to – which is why I avoid cities and cruises.

  2. Watched this 30 second clip and cannot imagine why anybody would subject themselves to a herd on a train, plane, bus or even in a city.

  3. I have yet to encounter this in any train station, even Rome’s, but I have had this happen in Florence around major sights. One year is was great and then a few years later the whole time we were in Florence we couldn’t get around and do anything. I think it is just weird timing. Because when we were on our cruise this past June, you would think the crowds would be terrible and we were fine every where we went.

  4. Well that was odd. I viewed this video, then a selection of other Youtube videos came up. Among them was “A Day at Sea” by you, Rick, on your cruise back from Italy to Barcelona, with views of the top deck activity. But, I see no text column by you on this? I guess this was a sneak preview?

  5. No worse than Disney World in June. Just a lot more real.
And this is nuthin’. Come back in 10 years when the Chinese start showin’ up.

Anyway there’s a reason why this is the epicenter of the perfume industry. Now if they would just work on that deodorant thing a little more…

  6. Again—what’s with some of the people on this blog who complain about the “tourists” spoiling their experiences abroad? Please take a step back and remember that, if you don’t live in Europe, you, too, are a tourist. Also, it seems rather elitist to complain about the “mass tourists,” as if you’re somehow superior to another kind of tourist. We’re all tourists, regardless of whether we’re independent travelers, people on cruises, people from America, people from China, etc. The phrase “Can’t we all just get along?” seems appropriate.
