Cover Art Sells Tours

Each year, my art and marketing team put together a 96-page, full-color booklet that showcases our tour program. We could have the best tours in the world (actually, we do) and not sell very many without the help of that team’s amazing talent to help show them off. Their work is made easier by the wonderful photographs of Dominic Arizona Bonuccelli.

A fun chore for me is to survey the possible cover photos and help pick the best. Here you can see our favorite shots for the last three years (top row), and the six top suggested photos for the cover of our 2014 tour catalog. Which of the six photos makes you want to buy a tour?

We ended up choosing Porto — that’s the one with all the old boats that ship kegs of port wine down the Douro River to Portugal’s second city…and a real Back Door.

  1. I’d pick the top left, the one with the lush fields and snow-covered mountains (reminds me strongly of the opening sequence of “The Sound of Music”… this isn’t Austria by any chance?). And what must be one of the best Louvre shots I’ve ever seen is a close second (well done Dominic!).

  2. Good choice, but I prefer the Spanish Windmills. I think you can actually rent at least one of the windmills out.

  3. I would have chosen the town on a hilltop, bottom middle. I like to travel on my own and avoid crowds if I can. I would be more attracted to take a tour if it is likely to take me someplace I might not know, recognize, am not likely to just stumble upon and looks amazing: the hilltop village, hands down, to tempt me to take a tour. All great photographs, though. Congratulations!

  4. It’s The Castle Aggh (middle image). The final resting place of the Holy Grail.

  5. The Alps with the field of flowers or the Porto one. Both look not only fun but relaxing.

  6. I would choose Civita but since the Italians don’t want to be bothered with USA dollars anymore I will go with Chateau de Chenonceau. All are beautiful.

  7. Top right side- I think it’s the hiking paths of Cinque Terre? That makes me feel like an adventure is to be had! Love that!
