Team “Rick Steves’ Europe” Tour Guides: Ready to Play Ball in 2013!

With our hometown Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs last weekend, we were in a sporty frame of mind. So I thought I’d introduce, football team-style, our newest guides. Last year was our best year of touring yet, with over 12,000 travelers enjoying over 400 of our tours. And our tours are selling far faster for 2013. While we need to have enough top-notch guides to meet that demand, we will never schedule a tour if we don’t have a guide that meets our standards. Compromising the quality of our tours by using guides or hotels we are not enthusiastic about is simply not an option. We just spent the better part of a week training our newest guides. They’ve apprenticed with our most experienced guides as assistant guides on tour in Europe. And they are ready to lead. I had so much fun getting to know these wonderful guides, and I’d like you to meet them too.

And so: Presenting our tour guiding class of 2013…

If you can’t see the video below, watch it on YouTube.

  1. There were at least three I totally couldn’t understand… And I hate that forced enthusiasm.

  2. Mitch and Kathy please get a life !! Let’s hear your French, Italian, German … accents !!

    Russ

  3. Russ – il est important de comprendre votre guide. Some of the problem may have been the apparent requirement that they speak very fast.

  4. Great to hear all the enthusiasm!!!! Just got back from France and I am still in the “glow” and it was winter! Spring and summer should be great. Hope people sign up and get some fantastic experiences!

  5. Mitch and Kathy, may you too be judged on a 1-15 second movie clip that is done in one take. Turn about is fair play as they say.

Good luck to the new guides.

    Pam

  6. I attended the Tour Reunion and spoke with all of the Guides shown in the video on several occasions. They all spoke excellent English and were perfectly easy to understand. The audio quality on this video clip is not a fair representation.

  7. Thanks Ken, I suspected that might be the case. Russ and Pam – I’ll be kinder than you are and not wish that your obviously excellent hearing deteriorate.

  8. Mama Mia !! ETBD has morphed into Miss America with accents. I guess if this is what it takes to sell tours, who am I to seek mature, persuasive spokespersons. I can picture somebody in Edmonds directing them to “Come on down!!” But these are caring young people just trying to meet U.S. marketing standards. Ugh.
