  1. This certainly is a different was of traveling for hard core travelers. But for some people they just physically and confidently cannot travel on their own. It is physically hard to walk from one end of a city to another. And many other decisions to make that may not feel like a vacation for some. Thank goodness, that there are many ways out there to travel, take a vacation, see the world!

  2. People that feel intimidated when traveling in different cities in different countries should maybe ….. not travel there. That is one way to cut down on the mass of crowds.

  3. Thanks Rick for the great Blog.

We love cruises as a family of 5. We have seen exotic places and wonderful cities, cultures and people, and at the end of the day we can go back to our 5 star accomidations and endless food, and fun for the kids. We think it is the best of both worlds.

  4. I could be wrong but I suspect many men are dragged along on many cruises because women want to be waited on. Nothing wrong with that at all.

  5. I find it amusing to witness all of the intolerant comments from the supposedly tolerant left which criticize people for this mode of travel. While it is not my preferred method of international travel, it might be ideal for many older travelers, families with kids and people who are not in good shape. So, I say live and let live.

  6. We took our first cruise last May after many years of traveling to Europe on our own. We were taking our son(40’s) and Grandson(13) to Europe for their first time and wanted a easy way for everyone to have fun.We are older now and it was really a wonderful way to see that all of us had a good time at night and we all did. We did no ship excursions but rather enjoyed showing our family Italy for their first time.My son did tell his friend that he was worn out after going on Mom’s 12 mile forced marches in ports! LOL! We cruised on the Carnival Magic and it was a great choice for a 3 generation cruise. Next year my husband and I will be cruising the Eastern Med on the Celebrity Equinox.I guess we are now sold on cruising but we have taken several trips to Europe on our own over the last 9 years. Now it is time to relax and be taken care of for the old folks!!We still plan on doing the ports on our own or with a private tour where transportation is a problem.

  7. I sure hope Rick will do a small ship (300 or fewer passengers), too. Big difference.

Often with discounted prices and free air (if you book one of the specials) and all the other all-inclusive features of a small ship, they can be just as attractive price-wise as the big mega ships, but with a more upscale, well-traveled feel.

Having done both, we prefer the small ships.

  8. I doubt that women are somehow more predisposed to wanting to be waited on than men.

On another note, is someone travelling with Rick or is he turning the camera on himself for his on-camera scenes?
