Rome Subway Submersion

As guides, we love the challenge of introducing 25 Americans to a new subway system. While we could hop on our big tour bus, it’s a great and empowering experience for our group–most of whom have never been in Rome and many who’ve never used a big city subway–to learn to do Rome as the Romans do. Here we get to the platform with one minute to spare.

  2. Rick,

You have done rankings in the past. Did you ever rank your favorite metro systems in Europe? For me the top 3 are the following:

    1. Amsterdam’s bicycle paths: Nothing beats people power, and there is nothing like bicycles to keep people in power (and in good shape).

    2. Paris Metro: The Paris system is efficient and fun, and some stations are even artistic. The system acts as a rebuke to those who say transit is inconvenient and drab.

    3. London Underground: The Underground is like a second city under the Big City. Neil Gaiman must have gotten his idea for the fantasy novel “Neverwhere” from that thought.
